The development is led by Egyptian Resorts Company (ERC), Sahl Hasheesh International Resort — located on a bay about 18 km south of Hurghada International Airport on Egypt’s Red Sea coast — is a master-planned resort city sprawling across roughly 32 million m² with a 12.5-kilometer coastline and around 9 km of sandy swimmable beaches. The resort combines natural beauty and upscale development: beyond pristine waters and coral reefs ideal for diving and snorkeling near Abu Hasheesh Island, it offers more than 3,000 hotel rooms, over 1,500 delivered residential units, multiple beach-access resorts, beach clubs, retail and dining zones, walking and cycling paths, diving centers, marina facilities and varied leisure amenities. Touristic activities range from diving, snorkeling and water sports, to golf, beach clubs, promenading along beachside walkways, shopping, dining, and nightlife — making it attractive both for holiday-makers and long-stay residents.

The resort’s marine walkways play a key role in delivering attractive services: they enable easy access to the sea, foster vibrant social and commercial life, and support diving or snorkeling excursions. These walkways also help maintain the area’s natural charm by concentrating development along defined corridors while preserving much of the surrounding landscape as open space, thus protecting the bay’s ecological and coastal integrity while offering high-quality resort living.

EcoBusiness Scope

‒         Project scoping & regulatory coordination – identify permitting requirements, engage environmental authorities, and define survey and assessment needs for both walkways.

‒         Baseline marine surveys – conduct ecological, water quality, bathymetric, sediment and hydrodynamic assessments along the proposed walkway footprints.

‒         Impact assessment & alternatives analysis – evaluate construction and operational impacts on coral, seagrass, water quality and coastal processes, and refine walkway alignment/design to minimise footprint.

‒         Mitigation & environmental management planning – develop CEMP, marine protection measures, and ecological mitigation such as coral/seagrass protection or relocation.

‒         EIA preparation & permit submission – compile the Environmental Impact Assessment, technical appendices, and management plans; conduct consultations; and submit the complete permit package.

‒         Regulator engagement & revisions – respond to authority comments, update documents as required, secure final approval, and integrate permit conditions into pre-construction requirements.
