Ras-Issran Oil Field, Gulf of Suez, EGYPT

Project description

Issaran Oil Field is an onshore crude oil field located near Ras-Ghareb on Egypt’s Red Sea coast, within the Gulf of Suez petroleum province, one of the country’s oldest and most productive hydrocarbon regions.

The field was discovered during the early phases of systematic oil exploration in the Gulf of Suez and forms part of Egypt’s mature oil-producing assets. It contains modest but economically viable oil reserves, estimated at several million barrels, and contributes to sustaining Egypt’s domestic crude oil supply rather than large-scale exports.

Exploration activities at Assran included geological studies, seismic surveys, and exploratory and appraisal drilling to define reservoir structures and commercial potential. Production operations consist of onshore oil wells, surface gathering systems, storage tanks, and transport facilities connected to nearby processing and export infrastructure in Ras-Ghareb.

The Assran Oil Field is operated under the authority of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, with involvement of national operating companies and joint ventures, supporting local employment, energy security, and the continued development of mature oil fields in the Gulf of Suez.

EcoBusiness Scope

Conducted a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment for oil exploration and production activities at the Issaran Oil Field, covering drilling, production facilities, waste management, flaring, and hydrocarbon transport in compliance with Egyptian environmental regulations.

Performed baseline environmental studies for soil, groundwater, air quality, noise, and surrounding environmental receptors in the Ras-Ghareb area to establish existing conditions.

Assessed environmental risks and impacts, including oil spills, produced water handling, air emissions, waste generation, and potential impacts on nearby coastal and Red Sea environments.

Developed mitigation measures, environmental management, and monitoring plans, including spill prevention, emergency response, and compliance monitoring procedures.

Prepared and submitted the environmental study to the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency, securing official approval for ongoing oil field operations.
