East Port Said Logistic Center - EIB funded project -, EGYPT

Project description

The East Port Said Logistics Center is a major integrated port, logistics, and industrial hub located at the Mediterranean entrance of the Suez Canal, positioning Egypt at the crossroads of global trade routes. As part of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), the project combines deep-water port facilities, advanced container and multi-purpose terminals, and extensive logistics areas equipped with warehouses and value-added services. The center is supported by a multimodal transport network—including tunnels, major road links, and a 42 km railway connection to Balooza—ensuring efficient cargo movement. Its industrial zones attract key sectors such as automotive manufacturing, rolling stock, maritime industries, and potential electronics. Designed to function as a world-class transshipment hub for Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, the project aims to strengthen Egypt’s position as a global trade gateway and stimulate significant economic growth.

EcoBusiness Scope

Prepared the Scoping Environmental Study for the East Port Said Logistic Center under an EIB-funded project.

Conducted a preliminary environmental baseline assessment, highlighting key sensitivities within the port, logistics, and industrial development zones.

Identified potential environmental impacts expected during construction and operation, focusing on marine, coastal, and industrial activities.

Defined the scope, methodology, and technical requirements for the forthcoming full Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).

Ensured full coordination with COWI/PPM, aligning all scoping tasks with EIB environmental and social standards.

Reviewed applicable national environmental regulations and outlined stakeholder engagement needs for later assessment phases.

Submitted the Scoping Report, which was approved by the Port Said Economic Zone, enabling progression to detailed environmental studies.
