Algerian Tourism Destinations “Scoping Phase”

Algeria's tourism tapestry weaves together diverse experiences, from Mediterranean shores to Saharan wonders. In Madagh (Béchar Province), the vast, golden dunes of the Grand Erg Occidental attract adventure seekers, with operators offering 4x4 excursions and camel treks into a sea of sand stretching over 600,000 km². On the coast, Mostaganem is a hub for beach tourism, its 45 kilometers of coastline featuring popular spots like "Salamandre" that draw thousands of local holidaymakers each summer. For the ultimate desert adventure, Tamanrasset is the gateway to the Hoggar Mountains, a volcanic landscape of dramatic peaks including Mount Tahat, Algeria's highest at 2,908 meters, renowned for its breathtaking sunsets and unique Tuareg culture. Further enriching the north, the ancient Roman city of Mascarda (modern Mascara) offers historical depth, serving as the political and spiritual capital for Emir Abdelkader in the 19th century and providing a compelling stop on cultural heritage trails.

EcoBusiness For Project Management was sub-consultant by Hamza Associates to conduct Environmental Impact Studies, Scoping Phase, for 5 tourism destinations in Algeria (Madagh, Mostaghnem, Tamanrasset, Tadlest and Moscarda). Three destinations are on the Mediterranean Sea and two in the southern desert. The studies included analysis of the potential impacts of developing the tourism destinations on the natural and social environments. The studies were approved and accepted by the client.
