6 October Power Plant Expansion 600 MW, Abu Rawash, Giza, EGYPT

Project description

6 October Power Plant Expansion (600 MW) in Abu Rawash, Giza, is a major upgrade to Egypt’s old 6 October Power Plant, adding modern high-efficiency gas-fired generation to secure reliable electricity for Greater Cairo. The project includes new gas turbines, balance-of-plant systems, and grid interconnection works integrated with the original facility. Funded through national energy programs with international financial support, the expansion strengthens Egypt’s power security, reduces operational pressures on older units, and supports industrial, residential, and economic growth. By building on the legacy of the original station, the project enhances capacity, improves efficiency, and reinforces long-term sustainability of the national grid—all within a strategically important urban–industrial zone.
